The Academy's Undercover Professor is an academy fantasy with a spy-thriller hook. After a deadly attack, a man takes over the identity of Ludger Cherish, a newly appointed professor at the empire's most prestigious magic academy, except he's an outsider who now has to fake his way through the role while hiding who he really is and untangling the dangerous secrets the real Ludger was caught up in. It's part magic-school story, part undercover-agent intrigue, built around a competent lead bluffing and outmaneuvering his way through a world that would kill him if it learned the truth. One thing to know up front: the webtoon adaptation was cancelled, so it stops partway through the larger story.

What it does well

The premise is a genuinely fun blend, magic academy plus undercover spy, and it gets good mileage out of the combination. The lead is sharp and quick-thinking, and watching him improvise his way past people who could expose him at any moment is the main draw. When he's reading a room and bluffing through a close call, it's a great time.

The imposture also generates real tension. Because one slip could blow his cover, even ordinary academy scenes carry a low hum of danger, and the cat-and-mouse with the people and factions circling him keeps things moving. It's a smarter setup than the usual overpowered-transfer-student fantasy.

It looks good, too. The full-color art is polished, the action is clear and dynamic, and the early-to-mid arcs balance teaching, mystery, and secret-keeping well enough to keep you turning episodes.

Where it falls short

The big one is unavoidable: the webtoon was cancelled. It ends abruptly without resolving the larger story, so if you read only the webtoon, you'll hit a wall well before the plot pays off. The original novel continues much further, but the adaptation simply stops, which is a real letdown for a story built on slow-burn secrets.

Beyond that, the academy-and-competent-protagonist framework is familiar from a lot of similar manhwa, and the plotting is setup-heavy with some uneven pacing. The premise promises more than the cut-short adaptation can deliver.

The Academy's Undercover Professor is a genuinely fun academy-spy fantasy with a strong hook and a clever lead, and the chapters that exist are an easy, enjoyable read. The catch is the cancellation: the webtoon stops mid-story, so you won't get a real ending here, and you'd need the novel for that. If you can enjoy a good ride that doesn't reach its destination, it's worth a look. If an unresolved story is a dealbreaker, wait or go straight to the novel.
