Hyun Eunseo has been treated like a princess since being adopted into a wealthy conglomerate family at age seven, doted on especially by Jinha, her calm, devoted adoptive brother. When her grandfather's health collapses, his scheming grandsons suddenly start competing for Eunseo's heart — because winning it is also the key to inheriting the family's business empire. It's a modern fairy-tale setup: an heiress at the center of a family power struggle, with Jinha as the obvious right answer and a childhood attachment to his cousin Seungyeon complicating things anyway.

The premise leans hard into wish-fulfillment romance tropes — doting love interest, family fortune at stake, a heroine positioned as the prize rather than a participant — and the story doesn't try to subvert that formula so much as lean into it.

What it does well

The biggest asset, especially in the first season, is the art. Character designs are clean and appealing, and the visual chemistry between the leads does real work selling moments the writing doesn't always earn on its own. Jinha's quiet, protective devotion also gives the romance a stable center — even when the plot around him thins out, his consistency as a love interest is easy to buy into.

The inheritance-conflict premise is also functional in a straightforward way: it gives every character a clear, legible reason to be circling Eunseo, without needing a lot of setup to understand what's at stake. And the story doesn't overstay its welcome — at 81 chapters across two seasons, it moves through its conflict at a reasonable clip.

Where it falls short

Eunseo is the story's biggest weakness. She spends most of the plot being acted upon rather than acting — family members scheme around her, suitors compete for her, and she mostly reacts rather than makes decisions that shape the story. That passivity makes her hard to invest in as a lead, however pretty the art around her is.

The grandfather's role is also uncomfortable in a way the story doesn't seem to fully register: his fixation on marrying Eunseo into the family purely to secure his own interests is played as a source of plot tension rather than examined as the manipulative behavior it actually is. And the art, a major draw in season one, changes noticeably for season two, with a shift in style that a lot of readers feel weakens the character designs right as the story heads toward its resolution.

Verdict

As You Wish, My Lady gets by more on its visual appeal and a dependable love interest than on its plot or its lead character. If pretty art and a devoted, protective romance are enough to carry you through a passive heroine and a fairly thin story, it delivers exactly that — just don't expect much substance once you look past the surface.
