Overview

Suryong Baek was the finest combat instructor the Blood Cult ever produced, right up until someone killed him. He wakes up in a stranger's body, weak, unremarkable, and teaching martial arts at a small rural academy that nobody respects. His new body can't access the kind of overwhelming inner power he used to command, but he's been down this road before and knows exactly how to rebuild strength from nothing. Fixing his condition takes money, and Suryong decides the fastest way to get it is to become the single best instructor in the country, which means going up against far more prestigious academies and teachers who never expected real competition.

What it does well

The premise gives this series a hook that a lot of murim webtoons don't have: instead of another revenge-driven cultivator clawing his way back up a sect hierarchy, Suryong's goal is explicitly to become a great teacher, and the story treats that as seriously as it treats the fighting. Watching a legendary killer's ruthless efficiency get redirected into figuring out how to actually teach a room full of underqualified students is a genuinely fresh angle, and it gives the comedy real texture instead of just being a fish-out-of-water gag. The martial arts sequences carry real weight once they arrive, informed by Suryong's decades of hard-won experience even when his current body can't fully back it up yet. The rural academy setting and its cast of overlooked students give the story an underdog warmth that a lot of harder-edged murim series skip entirely.

Where it falls short

The art and adaptation-writing team have changed between seasons, so the tone and visual polish aren't perfectly consistent across the whole run, and it's noticeable if you binge straight through. The "prove yourself against a snobbish establishment" structure is familiar competitive-shonen territory, and readers who've seen a lot of underdog-teacher stories won't find many surprises in the broader shape of it. As of this review the series is between seasons, so it's not the best pick if you want to binge a complete story start to finish right now.
