What it does well

The premise is sharp and lands immediately. Giving Daniel two bodies to live in lets Lookism say pointed, specific things about how differently people get treated based on appearance, and the early run leans into that with real bite -- bullying, privilege, and self-worth handled with more honesty than the premise might suggest at a glance.

It's also just very readable. The art is clean and expressive, the plot moves at a propulsive clip, and the cast of distinct characters and crews keeps expanding in a way that gives you new people to care about instead of just more noise. Once it hooks you, it's the kind of webtoon you can binge a hundred episodes of without noticing the time pass.

When it leans back into its core theme, it lands hardest -- there are genuinely affecting moments about being judged, overlooked, or written off that give the series more weight than its surface premise suggests, and those are the chapters that stick with you longest.

Where it falls short

The big issue is drift. Lookism starts as a pointed story about appearance and bias, then gradually turns into a sprawling gang-and-fighting saga, and the original two-bodies hook fades into the background for long stretches at a time. Depending on what drew you in, that shift can feel like reading a different series than the one you started.

The cast also balloons to the point of being hard to keep straight, the pacing across such a long, ongoing run gets uneven, and the tone swings between grounded drama and over-the-top brawling without always settling on one register. Readers who came for the social commentary may find the later chapters a tougher sell than the early run.

Lookism is an addictive, surprisingly thoughtful webtoon when it's locked onto its core idea, and the strong premise and propulsive early run make it an easy recommendation to start. Just know it sprawls into a long action saga over time, so how much you enjoy the later stretches depends a lot on whether you're here for the theme or the fights -- and those two halves of the series can feel like different shows.
