The premise sounds like standard-issue "second chance, marry the cold duke" fare, and on the surface it mostly is. What makes it worth reading is how seriously the story treats the parts around the romance.

What it does well

Pereshati's second-chance setup isn't just a device to get her paired off with a better man. She carries real, specific knowledge of exactly how her old family betrayed her, and that caution shapes her decisions in a way that feels earned rather than convenient — she's rebuilding her household on her own terms, using the marriage as cover and an education, not as the whole point. The Lapileon family's cursed blood is treated the same way: it's an actual mystery, with Therdeo trying to figure out why Pereshati survives contact with something that should kill her, and the story lets that question sit and develop rather than rushing to a tidy answer.

Seungu's art carries a lot of the emotional weight. The color work shifts noticeably in tense or unsettling scenes, and the character acting is expressive enough to sell both the story's darker beats and its lighter, funnier chapters without feeling tonally whiplashed. There's also a nice throughline in Pereshati's arc: she's using this marriage to actually learn how to run a household, preparing herself for a life after the contract ends rather than just waiting to fall in love.

Where it falls short

The biggest drag on the reading experience is how much the script relies on internal monologue. Seungu is clearly capable of conveying a character's state of mind visually, and often does — which makes it more frustrating when a scene follows up strong art with paragraphs of inner narration re-explaining what the reader just saw. It's a common issue in webtoons adapted from web novels, but it's noticeable enough here to slow chapters down. Being an ongoing weekly series also means pacing between major plot developments can stretch, and the early chapters, while solid, take a while to get past their familiar setup before the mystery elements really kick in.

Verdict

This is a well-above-average entry in a crowded genre — the marriage-of-convenience romance is handled with more care than usual, and the mystery around the Lapileon bloodline gives it a reason to keep reading beyond "will they fall in love." The overreliance on internal monologue keeps it from being a top-tier recommendation, but if you like this genre, it's one of the better ongoing options.
