Overview

Yuji Sano is the kind of corporate drone who works himself into the ground at the office and keeps working once he's home, so when his computer flashes a message about being summoned to another world, he barely registers it before accidentally accepting the summons for real. Dropped into an unfamiliar fantasy world, all Yuji wants is to wake up and get back to his mountain of paperwork -- but his Monster Tamer class lets him befriend slimes, and there turn out to be a lot of them, feeding him enough absorbed magical knowledge to hand him a second character class and, with it, the title of the world's strongest sage.

What it does well

The slimes are, without much competition, the best part of this manga. They're drawn with just enough individual variation and personality to feel like real companions rather than generic monster fodder, and it's clear the artist enjoys finding small ways to make each one distinct. Yuji's burned-out mindset carrying over into the new world is a decent hook too -- there's something quietly funny and relatable about a man so conditioned by overwork that he treats dismantling evil organizations with the same grim diligence he once brought to his inbox.

As comfort reading goes, it's genuinely easy to pick up: the stakes stay low, the plot doesn't demand much tracking, and side characters like Proud Wolf bring some welcome energy to scenes that would otherwise rest entirely on Yuji's flat expression. If you're after something breezy to read between heavier series, it does that job reliably.

Where it falls short

The honest weak point here is Yuji himself. He's calm to the point of blankness, his overpowered abilities arrive with little real struggle, and he tends to meet dramatic reveals and dangerous fights with the same deadpan expression -- which a number of longtime readers have found makes the story feel flatter the longer it goes. That's compounded by how closely the core premise tracks with That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime -- an overworked reincarnated lead gaining power through an army of friendly slimes is a hard comparison to avoid, and this manga doesn't do quite enough to carve out its own identity next to it. Without a distinctive lead to anchor the pacing, some stretches read as sleepy rather than genuinely relaxing.

My Isekai Life is pleasant, low-stakes comfort reading carried mostly by its charming slimes rather than its blank-slate protagonist. It's fine for what it is, but readers who want their overpowered isekai lead to have real personality -- or who've already read the series this one echoes -- may find it forgettable.
