Pawprints on Her Heart opens with an ending: Coco, a dog who spent five happy years with her owner Chloe, dies. From the afterlife, she watches Chloe's life start to fall apart, and she can't accept sitting still for it. A sympathetic Puppy God grants her wish to go back — not as a dog again, but as a human child, adopted into Chloe's family. Coco gets a second chance to be close to the person she loves most. The catch is that loving Chloe as a dog and reaching her as a daughter turn out to be two very different problems.

What it does well

The smartest choice this webtoon makes is refusing to treat its premise as a joke. A dog reincarnated as a little girl is exactly the kind of hook that could tip into slapstick, and there are light moments where Coco's instincts poke through in very dog-like ways. But the story keeps its center of gravity on the real emotional question underneath: can devotion this total actually help someone who's grieving, or does it just watch from a different angle? That sincerity is what makes the early chapters work as well as they do.

Chloe herself is drawn with a decent amount of care. Her sadness isn't cranked up for maximum tears — it reads as someone quietly going through the motions after a loss, which is a more honest depiction than a lot of grief-driven premises manage. Coco's narration carries a lot of the weight here. Her simple, unwavering loyalty gives even ordinary scenes — breakfast, a walk, a bad day at school — a kind of quiet stakes that a more plot-heavy series might skip past entirely.
