7.0out of 10

“Moody and compact: a quick, atmospheric supernatural mystery that sets up a much bigger story.”

Best for: Readers who want a short, well-drawn supernatural mystery and don't mind it leading into a longer sequel series.

Not for: Readers wanting a fully self-contained story -- this is explicitly a 3-volume prologue to Queen's Quality.

What is QQ Sweeper about?

Fumi Nishioka is a homeless high schooler with amnesia, scraping by with no memory of her past. When a classmate's cry for help pulls her into the Void -- a strange shared space linking people's inner minds -- she's saved by Kyutaro Horikita, a "Sweeper" who cleanses minds of the negative emotional buildup that festers there. The Horikita family takes Fumi in, trains her as Kyutaro's partner, and she soon discovers she carries the rare "Queen" power -- the ability to control others, which can be used for good or turned dangerous. That power makes her a target, and the series builds its supernatural mystery around who's after her and why.

Written and illustrated by Kyousuke Motomi, the manga ran in Betsucomi from 2014 to 2015 across 3 volumes, and leads directly into a 25-volume sequel, Queen's Quality.

Is this a complete story, or do I need to read the sequel?

QQ Sweeper is a self-contained 3-volume setup arc -- it introduces the Void, Fumi's power, and the core relationships, and it does wrap up its own immediate plot. But it's explicitly a prologue to Queen's Quality, which continues the story at much greater length, so treat QQ Sweeper as the compact first chapter of a much bigger saga rather than a fully closed-off story.

Is the romance between peers?

Yes. Fumi and Kyutaro both attend the same high school -- he's a second-year student there -- so their slow-building romantic tension develops between classmates rather than across any adult/minor divide.

Is it worth reading?

For readers who want a moody, well-drawn supernatural mystery with a quick, manageable entry point, QQ Sweeper is a strong, low-commitment pick -- especially if you're willing to follow it into Queen's Quality afterward. Motomi's atmospheric art and the Void concept make for a compelling three-volume setup, even if it's clearly building toward something bigger.
