The lead's wish, after dying, is oddly specific: he wants to be reborn as an unassuming wimp who's secretly the most powerful person alive. The goddess grants it, with a catch — if anyone ever finds out how strong he really is, his heart explodes. What follows is a fantasy-school comedy built entirely around him going to increasingly ridiculous lengths to keep his power a secret while everyone around him keeps almost figuring it out.

What it does well

The premise itself is the strongest thing this webtoon has going for it. It's a genuinely funny twist on the overpowered-protagonist formula — instead of a lead who wants recognition, you get one actively working against it, with real stakes (however silly) attached to slipping up. The early chapters mine that setup well, putting the lead through escalating, absurd situations where hiding his strength is funnier than just using it would be.

The visual presentation starts strong too. The early arcs have distinct character designs and confident use of color and shadow that give the book a clear identity rather than blending into the crowd of similar reincarnation comedies.

Where it falls short

The further into the run you get, the more the seams show. The art becomes increasingly reliant on flatter, more generic-looking character models compared to the ambition of the opening chapters, and the writing starts leaning on familiar power-fantasy beats instead of building meaningfully on its own premise. The central gag — hiding his strength — is strong enough to carry a handful of arcs, but by the later chapters it's running through more predictable variations rather than finding new angles.

That decline is the main reason this doesn't score higher: a genuinely clever hook gets diluted as the story settles into a longer, ongoing format instead of using the extra length to deepen what made it stand out early on.

Verdict

Secretly More Powerful than the Hero opens with one of the more entertaining gimmicks in its genre and coasts on it for a while, but the art and writing both soften as the story goes on. Worth checking out for the early chapters and the joke at its core, just don't expect the whole run to hold up to that same standard.
