Using the fake-dating premise to expose vulnerability, rather than just generate cute misunderstandings, gives the story more weight than the setup initially suggests. The scheme cracks under real emotional pressure instead of just providing a string of rom-com set pieces, and that grounding is what makes the eventual, genuine connection between the two leads land.

The thirty-something setting is also a welcome change of pace. A lot of webtoon romance defaults to high school or college-age characters; here, the baggage, the exes, and the stakes all read like the kind of complications actual adults deal with, which gives the romance a different flavor than most of the genre.

Where it falls short

The premise itself — fake dating to make an ex jealous — is well-worn romance territory, and while the execution here is more grounded than most, it's still working within a familiar shape.
