Yoon Bom-bit has replayed her favorite dating sim so many times she can probably recite it — a feudal-fantasy game where she just wants the heroine, Anette de Valois, to finally get a happy ending. The problem is Anette's twisted stepsister Mariette, who keeps derailing every route into a bad end. Then Bom-bit wakes up inside the game world, in Mariette's body, with an actual chance to fix things from the inside instead of just replaying the save file.

What sets this apart from the usual isekai-into-a-story-you-love premise is the framing: Bom-bit isn't trying to win a romance for herself, she's trying to engineer one for someone else, and the family relationship she builds with Anette along the way becomes the real center of the story.

What it does well

The sister-first angle is a smart pivot on a crowded genre. Rather than the usual transmigration-into-a-villainess-who-needs-a-husband formula, the emotional engine here is Bom-bit's determination to give a character she cares about the ending she deserves, and that comes through as genuine rather than a plot device. Anette's original mistreatment — abuse from her stepmother and stepsister, and a father who looked away — is treated with real weight rather than being softened for the sake of the fantasy setup.

The dynamic between Bom-bit-as-Mariette and Anette is also a clever subversion: instead of an isekai lead needing to escape an abusive family, she's working from inside that family to repair the damage it already did. That's a more interesting shape than the genre usually offers.

Where it falls short

The romance subplot is where the story struggles. The love interests arrive already fixated on the female lead with little to no groundwork explaining why, which makes their attraction read as arbitrary rather than earned — several readers have pointed out that the men in this story behave more like they're floating in from nowhere than characters reacting to anything Anette actually does. That thinness extends to the cast more broadly: personalities lean on familiar archetypes (the cold duke, the presumptuous elder mage) rather than distinct writing.

The pacing compounds the problem — the romance moves quickly despite the story never building the trust or chemistry to support that speed. And the art, while serviceable, is inconsistent, with some panels showing noticeably weaker proportions and expressions than others.

Verdict

My Sister's Happy Ending has a genuinely good hook in its sister-focused premise, and the emotional core between Bom-bit and Anette is worth the read on its own. But the romance the story spends real page time building never earns its own weight, and the supporting cast stays thin throughout. Worth it if the sibling story is what draws you in — skippable if you're here mainly for the romance.
