The core joke never gets old because Hwa-yeong is an unusually active heroine for the genre. She's not waiting around for the plot to happen to her; she's actively working against it, and watching her schemes to look bad backfire into looking charming instead gives the webtoon a steady, reliable engine for comedy. That same energy carries into the romance itself, which develops through real back-and-forth banter rather than one party quietly pining while the other remains oblivious. Both leads get to be clever, which makes their scenes together consistently entertaining.

The palace-selection structure also works in the story's favor, giving Jeonghyeon and Kitrow a built-in excuse for a string of self-contained comic set pieces, each testing Hwa-yeong against a different obstacle or rival, without any single situation overstaying its welcome. And unlike a lot of webtoon romances that end abruptly or leave threads dangling, this one commits to a full, satisfying resolution.

Where it falls short

Don't come to this one for court intrigue. The political backdrop of the selection process stays mostly decorative, and readers hoping for real palace scheming or power struggles will find the stakes stay pretty low throughout. A chunk of the supporting cast exists mainly to feed Hwa-yeong's sabotage gags rather than to develop as characters in their own right, and the central sabotage-backfires-into-romance joke, while consistently funny, does start to feel a little repetitive before the story shifts its focus in the second half.
