Their long cat-and-mouse is the engine of the series, and the schemes are clever enough to keep you guessing how she'll pull each one off.
Aria herself is a big part of why it works. She isn't a clean, blameless heroine; she's a former villain genuinely trying to be smarter, if not always better. That moral grayness makes her far more interesting than the usual wronged-saint lead, and it gives her wins a sharper edge.

Mielle can tip into cartoonish villainy at times, which undercuts the tension, and the middle stretch leans hard on court politics that drag a little. The ruthlessness that makes Aria compelling can also make the story feel cold, depending on your taste.
