Is Wail of a Dragon's Rage Worth Reading? Review & Where to Read

Quick Answer
Worth it if you're here for monster-transformation brawls and genuinely striking creature art; go in knowing the story around those fights is the more familiar part.
Quick Verdict
“gegegek's creature designs do more heavy lifting here than the revenge plot does.”
Best for: Readers who want big transformation fights and inventive monster art carrying a fairly straightforward revenge story.
Not for: Readers who want the plot and character writing to be as ambitious as the action, or a story that isn't built around vengeance.

Overview
Ananta is a descendant of one of the First Six Incarnates, beings who each carry a human face and a monstrous true form underneath it. His is a dragon, and it comes out whenever something stands between him and what he wants -- which, for most of this story, is revenge against the Wings Incarnate, a deceiver who wears the look of a heavenly angel over something far uglier. Ananta travels with Ruby, a small fire-breathing lizard who's secretly a young girl in her human form, and Nadia, a nature spirit whose true shape is a wendigo, as he hunts down the being responsible for wrecking his life.
What it does well
The best reason to read this is gegegek's creature art. Every Incarnate gets a monstrous form that actually looks like a different animal or force of nature rather than a palette-swapped variant of the last one, and the transformation sequences have real weight -- you feel the size difference when Ananta goes full dragon and starts tearing through whatever's in front of him. Action webtoons live or die on whether the fights read clearly at speed, and these do; blocking and impact are legible even when the panels get chaotic.
The Incarnates concept itself is a smart piece of worldbuilding. Because every major character, ally or enemy, has both a human identity and a true monstrous one, the power system doesn't feel like it's handing out one-off gimmicks -- everyone is playing by the same rules Ananta is, which makes the escalating fights feel earned rather than arbitrary. Ruby and Nadia also do real work keeping the story from being wall-to-wall grimness; their banter with Ananta gives the quest some warmth between the brawls.
Where it falls short
The plot underneath all that art is a fairly standard revenge quest, and the story doesn't do much to bend or complicate that shape. Ananta wants payback, the Wings Incarnate is the target, and most of what happens in between is escalating obstacles on the way there rather than genuine narrative surprise. Character writing suffers a little for it -- outside of combat, motivations tend to boil down to duty or vengeance rather than anything more specific to who these people are.
There are also stretches where the story leans so hard on delivering the next big fight that the larger questions about the Incarnates and what the Wings Incarnate is actually after get left waiting. It's not that the plot goes nowhere, it's that the momentum is almost entirely built on combat rather than mystery or character development.
Verdict
Wail of a Dragon's Rage is at its best when Ananta is mid-transformation and gegegek's creature designs get to do the talking -- that's genuinely well above average for the genre. The revenge plot carrying those fights is much more ordinary, and the character writing rarely reaches the same level as the art. If you're here for monster-brawl spectacle with a coherent power system behind it, this delivers. If you need the story around the fights to be just as ambitious, it falls a bit short of that.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
- The creature designs are the highlight -- Ananta's dragon form and the other Incarnates' monstrous sides are genuinely inventive and don't look like reskins of each other.
- Transformation fights have real weight and impact; the art sells the size and violence of a half-human, half-dragon brawler tearing through enemies.
- The 'Incarnates' concept, where every major character has both a human face and a true monstrous form, gives the cast a consistent internal logic instead of one-off power gimmicks.
- Ruby and Nadia give Ananta's quest some warmth and banter between fights, so it isn't wall-to-wall grimness.
Weaknesses
- The core revenge-quest structure is familiar territory, and the story rarely does much to complicate or subvert it.
- Character writing outside of combat is thinner than the art -- motivations mostly boil down to duty or vengeance rather than anything more specific.
- Some stretches lean so hard on escalating fights that the plot's bigger questions about the Incarnates and the Wings Incarnate feel like they're waiting their turn.
