The regression setup gives her real, usable foreknowledge rather than a vague sense of dread, and the political maneuvering she runs on that knowledge has actual stakes, alliances shift, concubines scheme, and the empire's internal politics feel like a real battlefield rather than set dressing around the romance.

The emotional register between Larcy and Jevon also stays consistent in a way a lot of similar series don't manage, this isn't a marriage that softens into easy warmth the moment the plot needs it to, the coldness is played straight and earns its tension. And the wider court intrigue, concubine rivalries, shifting loyalties, the empire's own internal fractures, gives the story a wide enough stage that it doesn't live or die purely on the central couple.

The real issue is Jevon himself. He's written as controlling, and there are points where his behavior toward Larcy crosses into sexual coercion that the story doesn't always treat with the seriousness that behavior deserves, framing it closer to romantic tension than the real problem it would be. The pacing is also inconsistent.
