High school senior Yiyeon Kang gets beaten up by a group of bullies and wakes up from the resulting coma to find the world in ruins - an alien invasion has wiped out the streets he knew, and the bullies who put him there are still out looking for their next target, just in a much more dangerous world now. Weak, injured, and without much going for him, Yiyeon sets out to find and protect his friend Younglin, and to settle accounts with the people who hurt him, all while the post-apocalyptic setting throws worse things than bullies in his path.

Written by HUN with art by JIMMY, under SUPERCOMIX STUDIO, Rendezvous ran on Tapas from 2021 with 102 episodes before entering an announced hiatus in mid-2025.

What it does well

The setup does real work by combining two very different threats at once - the mundane cruelty of the bullies who put Yiyeon in a coma, and the alien invasion that's since swallowed the world whole. That combination keeps the story from settling into either a straightforward survival thriller or a straightforward revenge story; it's doing both, and the friction between them gives early chapters a sharper edge than either genre would have alone.

Yiyeon's physical weakness is also handled as a real constraint rather than a fake one. He's not secretly capable and waiting to reveal it - he's genuinely outmatched by almost everyone and everything around him, which makes his small wins land harder and keeps the tension believable instead of a foregone conclusion.

The search for Younglin gives the plot a clear emotional throughline underneath all the survival mechanics, so even at its bleakest the story has something concrete driving it forward beyond just staying alive one more episode.

Where it falls short

The story is currently on hiatus, which is worth knowing going in - it's an unfinished read for now, and there's no announced return date. That's a real risk for a plot this serialized and threat-heavy, since momentum built up over 100 episodes doesn't automatically survive an open-ended pause.

The blend of bully-drama and alien-apocalypse also doesn't always balance evenly. Stretches that dwell on Yiyeon's history with his tormentors can feel small next to the scale of what's happening around him, and the story occasionally seems unsure which conflict it wants to be the main event at any given moment.

Some side characters introduced along the way get less development than the setup promises, functioning more as obstacles or allies-of-convenience than people with their own clear stakes in the wider disaster.

Verdict

Rendezvous pairs a personal bullying grudge with a genuinely dangerous post-apocalyptic setting, and that combination is sharper than either half would be alone - at least for the 102 episodes currently available. The hiatus makes it a harder recommendation right now than it would otherwise be, but if you don't mind reading an unfinished story, the setup and stakes are strong enough to be worth the time.
