Quick Answer

If you want a gentle, slow-building exes-to-maybe-again romance with no big twists, this delivers. If you want real obstacles or a plot beyond the relationship, it runs thin.

Quick Verdict

6.6out of 10

“It's comfort-food romance — low stakes, familiar beats, and that's not a complaint if that's what you came for.”

Best for: Readers who want a slow, low-drama rekindled-romance with familiar high school beats.

Not for: Readers who want real external obstacles, plot beyond the relationship, or a story that moves fast.

Overview

Sakura and Ren dated for six months as childhood friends before he ended it, telling her they should just go back to being friends. Then high school starts, and he's right there in her new life, and the feelings she thought she'd packed away haven't actually gone anywhere. Revenge Love — despite the title — isn't a revenge story. It's a quiet, close-focus romance about two people who already know each other too well to pretend they don't still care.

What it does well

The relationship itself is the whole appeal, and it mostly earns it. Chiinyo doesn't write either lead as the obstacle to the other's happiness — Ren isn't a jerk who needs to be won over, and Sakura isn't oblivious. They're just two teenagers who broke something and don't quite know how to fix it, which makes the will-they-won't-they feel more honest than a lot of romance webtoons manage. The art does a lot of the emotional lifting: small, held glances and body language carry scenes that don't have much dialogue, and that restraint suits the story's low-key tone.

It also respects your time in one specific way — it doesn't manufacture a dumb misunderstanding and stretch it out for fifty chapters just to create tension. Whatever friction exists between Sakura and Ren comes from them, not from a contrived plot device.

Where it falls short

The tradeoff for that focus is a story that's thin outside the central pair. There's no real external pressure — no rival pulling at either of them, no family conflict, nothing bigger than the two of them figuring out their own feelings — so across 200-plus chapters, the actual ground covered is pretty small. Side characters come and go without much presence of their own. And because the conflict is so internal and so gentle, stretches of the story move at a crawl; if you like your romance with momentum, this will test your patience.

Verdict

This is comfort reading, not a plot-driven romance — slow, warm, and narrow in scope. If you want two believable people slowly working their way back to each other with nothing else getting in the way, it's a pleasant read. If you need more story around the relationship to stay engaged, it'll feel thin well before the end.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • The central will-they-won't-they is low-key and believable — neither Sakura nor Ren is written as cruel or dense, so the push-pull doesn't feel manufactured.
  • The art keeps a clean, expressive shoujo style that sells the small moments — a look held too long, a hand almost touching — which is most of what this story runs on.
  • It never drags out a single misunderstanding for dozens of chapters the way a lot of long-running romance webtoons do.

Weaknesses

  • There isn't much plot outside the relationship — no rival, no family pressure, no real external conflict — so 200+ chapters cover less ground than the length suggests.
  • Side characters stay thin; this is almost entirely a two-hander, and anyone looking for a fuller cast will feel the gap.
  • The pacing is gentle to the point of slow in stretches, with chapters that move the relationship forward by inches.

Similar Titles

Same gentle, slow-burn high-school romance energy.

  • True Beauty

A bigger-scale, more plot-heavy version of the same rekindled-feelings romance appeal.

  • Days of Hana

Similar low-drama, character-focused school romance pacing.
