The picks
1. Jujutsu Kaisen
Why it belongs here: A sharp supernatural battle manga with a strong sense of danger. The fights are tactical, the curse imagery is memorable, and the story rarely lets victory feel free.
Best for: fans of dark action and power systems.
Keep in mind: Later arcs can become dense and punishing.
Read officially: VIZ / MANGA Plus
2. Demon Slayer
Why it belongs here: A straightforward completed action story with a strong emotional engine. Tanjiro’s kindness keeps the darker demon material from feeling cold, and the short-ish total length makes it less intimidating than many battle manga.
Best for: anime fans who want their first complete manga binge.
Keep in mind: The paneling is less flashy than the anime adaptation, so read it for pacing and feeling rather than animation-level spectacle.
Read officially: VIZ
3. Spy x Family
Why it belongs here: It is one of the cleanest modern starter manga because the hook is immediate: a spy, an assassin, and a telepath pretending to be a normal family. The comedy is broad without being empty, and the emotional beats land because everyone in the household is hiding something for a reason.
Best for: readers who want funny, polished, low-barrier manga.
Keep in mind: The spy plot moves in arcs, so do not expect every chapter to push the main mission forward.

4. Chainsaw Man
Why it belongs here: A violent, strange, funny, and sad action manga about desire, manipulation, work, loneliness, and the cost of being useful to other people. It hits because Denji’s dreams are painfully small.
Best for: readers who want dark action with emotional damage under the jokes.
Keep in mind: Graphic violence, body horror, sexual themes, and manipulation are central.

5. Dandadan
Why it belongs here: A supernatural action comedy that moves from aliens to ghosts to awkward teen feelings without losing its heart. It is chaotic, but the emotional sincerity keeps the weirdness grounded.

6. My Hero Academia
Why it belongs here: A superhero school manga with a clear emotional hook: what makes someone worthy of power? It is accessible because its ideals are big, direct, and easy to root for.

Best for: readers who want friendship, competition, and payoff.
Keep in mind: Matches can run long, but the momentum is the point.
Read officially: VIZ
9. One-Punch Man
Why it belongs here: It looks like a superhero gag manga at first, but the reason it sticks is the contrast between absurd comedy and genuinely spectacular action art. It is easy to start because Saitama’s problem is instantly understandable: he is too strong to feel anything.
Best for: readers who want comedy with blockbuster fights.
Keep in mind: The plot expands slowly because the joke comes before the lore early on.

How to choose from this list
If you are new to the topic, do not start with the longest or most famous title just because it has the biggest fandom. Start with the tone you actually want tonight. A short completed series is better when you need closure. A long-running action title is better when you want a world to live in for weeks. A romance or slice-of-life pick is better when you want characters more than plot mechanics.
