Tapas Is Shutting Down on March 31, 2027 — Where to Read Its Manhwa Before Then

If you've got a Tapas account with half-read series and some unused Ink sitting in it, here's the direct answer: Tapas is closing for good on March 31, 2027. Kakao Entertainment, which owns the platform, confirmed the date itself; new Ink purchases already stopped on October 1, 2026, and when the site goes dark, whatever you paid for goes with it — there's no refund, no transfer, and no download of what you've unlocked.

This guide covers what's actually confirmed about the shutdown, what you can still do with your account before March 2027, and — since this is still a real catalogue worth reading while it's up — a snapshot of the 200+ titles Next Panel has reviewed that are currently on Tapas, pulled straight from our own official-link tracking so the list stays accurate as the platform winds down.

Availability checked 24 October 2026. Platforms change catalogues, and access varies by country, device and subscription — always confirm on the official page before you commit to a series.

What you can read, and where

What Kakao has actually confirmed

The shutdown itself isn't a rumor — Kakao Entertainment announced it directly, and the date in its own FAQ is March 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. New Ink purchases stopped on October 1, 2026, but everything you've already bought or unlocked keeps working right up until the close date.

After that, it's gone. Tapas's own FAQ states that Ink transactions are final and non-refundable, and there's no stated extension, credit, or compensation for unused Ink or unfinished series. Content doesn't carry over to Kakao Page or anywhere else — the only thing you can request is an export of your account/personal data, which is account info, not your reading history or unlocked chapters. If you paid through the Apple or Google app stores specifically, disputes go to them, not Tapas.

What's still readable there right now

Tapas is, for the moment, operating normally — new episodes, the Ink shop (minus new purchases), all of it. Its catalogue leans hard into Korean web-novel adaptations: regression and reincarnation power fantasies, LitRPG grinds, and a huge wall of villainess and otome-isekai romance, almost all serialized as digital chapters or episodes rather than the long vertical-scroll format WEBTOON is known for. Most series run on a free-with-a-wait-or-pay-to-skip model (Tapas calls its paywall "Ink"), so the free/paid split in the table below is really about how many chapters are currently unlocked without paying, not a hard gate.

The table pulls from Next Panel's own reviews with a confirmed Tapas link, so it's a slice of the catalogue, not all of it — but every row has been checked and links back to a full review if you want more than the one-line pitch.

Where things are heading (and what isn't confirmed)

Kakao hasn't announced a destination for a single series, and that's worth saying plainly, because the gap gets filled with speculation fast. What's actually reported: Kakao's own IP — series that started on KakaoPage before Tapas picked them up, like Overgeared, Villains Are Destined to Die, and Tomb Raider King — has a plausible path back to KakaoPage or over to Tappytoon, which already licenses some Kakao-owned titles in English. Independent, creator-owned series don't have that fallback. When outlets asked The Beginning After the End's creator, TurtleMe, about it in late September, he said he genuinely didn't know what's next for the series.

Treat all of that as context, not a promise. Until Kakao or a creator says otherwise for a specific title, assume a series' Tapas link is the only official one it has.

What to actually do before March 2027

There's no good workaround for the lost purchases — Tapas has been explicit that Ink doesn't transfer and isn't refunded. What you can do: finish what you're in the middle of while it's still accessible, request a data export of your account if you want a record of what you had (via feedback@tapas.io), and check whether a series you care about already has an official release elsewhere — some Tapas titles are cross-licensed to WEBTOON, Tappytoon, or print publishers, and Next Panel's reviews link to those when they exist. Don't count on a last-minute reprieve — nothing reported since the October announcement has walked back the date or the no-refund policy.

Worth starting with

• The Beginning After the End — The one everyone associates with Tapas. TurtleMe (the creator) has said publicly he doesn't know yet where the series lands once Tapas closes — so if you've been meaning to start it, do it here while you still can.
• A Business Proposal — A fake-dating rom-com that reads fast and never drags. A good pick if a shutdown headline is the first time you've heard of it — a few hours gets you hooked before the platform's clock runs out.
• Villains Are Destined to Die — Penelope Eckart clawing her way out of her own doomed villainess role, with a genuinely good reverse-harem romance built around it. One of the stronger picks in Tapas's biggest genre.
• Overgeared — A LitRPG grind manhwa that earns its stakes — Grid starts out bad at the game and it shows. If you only read one numbers-go-up fantasy on this list, make it this one.
• The King’s Avatar — A demoted pro gamer rebuilding his career from nothing. The best-known competitive-esports manhwa on the platform, and a good entry point if you've never read one.
• The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor — The granddaddy of VRMMORPG power-fantasy webnovels, adapted here as webtoon. It's long, so don't expect to finish before March 2027 — but it's popular enough to be a reasonable bet to turn up somewhere else if Tapas's version goes dark.
